Dan Whetton - Frenzy? A Proper Little Angel......err.....maybe not!!!

"I keep trying to re-invent myself through my various hobbies and interests. I've worked as a Designer in many various roles and had a taste of everything from Photoshop Character Design to 3D AutoCAD modelling for a large companies. I have to respect those who stick at the same thing over many years and become specialists in their chosen field but that wouldn't work for me. I have to keep changing direction and moving on to the next project or challenge".

I was born in Chesterfield, England in September 1976. I was cold, naked and wet and although too much information I'm sure you can appreciate that we pretty much all start this way. Only for me it got worse after that............only joking!!!

My Mother was proud but I had no identity. Although not regular church followers my name 'Daniel' was taken from the Bible and the story of 'Daniel in the lion's den' (Daniel is the only man in the entire Bible that God calls "greatly beloved" (Daniel 10:11).

My Father 'Dave Whetton' unfortunately died in an accident the week after my birth, may he rest in peace.

In many ways the fact I never knew my Dad drives almost everything I do. It gives me inspiration to take risks and be a better person. I feel frustration at never having had the chance to have a relationship like most normal families and anger at the world too for taking him away. Especially when the realisation kicks in that we only have one shot at this life. Yet all I ever wanted to do is be like the man I never met. In my Mothers eyes I'm the continuation of his life and character and I'm apparently so much like him its uncanny. I think its great because it shows we have in us something very special and we are truly all individuals who choose which path in life we want to walk.

I think some of the feelings I have felt over the years is certainly reflected in my artwork. My artwork, in fact my life, has to represent my inner feelings and character because if it doesn't then what's the f'king point?

Our characters are directly reflected in the clothes we wear, cars we drive and people we associate with. Its very important we show who we are and hide nothing because when its all over you only have what impressions you leave behind in memories, achievements and relationships. Above all else be yourself.

I met Kim in 1999 and we were both ready for a fresh start. What better than the end of the 20th century and the start of the 21st. We started as very good friends and on the New Years Eve of that year we said 'tonight we're gonna party like its 1999'. There's a song in there somewhere!!!

We soon became best friends and then into a relationship. We got engaged in 2004 at Whitby Abbey, North Yorkshire and later married in 2006 at Horsley Lodge, Derbyshire.

We now live together In Nottinghamshire and at the time of writing this have two fantastic cats called Disney and Simba as well as an ageing Chinchilla known as Chilly.

We live everyday to the best we can and never, ever look back on anything we've done with any regret.

Who knows what the future holds. You have to make the best of what you have and hold on to things that matter.

A typical look for me is that of surprise.

My attitude is that of a glass half full although some days it can definitely be a case of the glass has been smashed and everything spilled all over my white shirt which was ruined!!!!

Its just life I guess

Sometimes it seemed as though nobody would listen to me and my drinking partners were a bunch of  stiffs!!!
